CatRescue 901 is a small team of volunteers who are dedicated to helping cats in need in pounds and the community. We do not receive any funding and are only able to continue our vital rescue work thanks to the generosity of the community. Donations over $2 are tax deductible. Thank you for your support.

The bequest we received in December, 2020 has now been spent and over 800 desexing vouchers were issued over the following 16 months. Please donate now to help us restart the program.
Subsidised Desexing
Through the support of our generous sponsors and donors, plus our wonderful participating vets, we are able to issue subsidised desexing vouchers as our funds allow. Desexing improves the quality of life and health of cats and saves litter after litter of kittens being born to mostly a (short) life of suffering.
In order to reduce the vets’ administration work as a result of our vouchers, the amount you are contributing will be paid direct to CatRescue 901 and then we will issue you with a no fee voucher to give to the vet. When we have worked out how much you are contributing, we will send you the link where you pay. Once paid, we will request that Natalie does the voucher/s and emails same to you. Please allow up to a week for this to happen as Natalie works full time. If you have not heard from us within a week, please do let us know and we will chase it up for you.
Please understand we have limited funds so only apply if you absolutely need our financial assistance. If you can afford to pay more then $50, please do tell us – this will enable us to help more people and cats.
Please note that vouchers are limited to 2 per applicant, and are only available in Sydney via our participating vets. Once you have received your subsidised desexing voucher, you will then need to call the vet to make your appointment. YOU MUST notify the staff member at the time that you are holding a CatRescue 901 subsidised desexing voucher.

- If female cats are pregnant or on heat, voucher holder will have to pay vet $25 extra.
- Bass Hill Vet requires all friendly cats to be vaccinated 1 week before desexing. If you cat’s vaccinations are up to date, the vet will require proof of that.
- Unsocialised (feral) cats – do not require up to date vaccinations

To apply for subsidised desexing, please send an email to desexing@catrescue901.org.au, and make sure to include the following information:
- Your full name
- Your contact number
- Are you applying for 1 or 2 subsidised desexing vouchers?
- Which of vets (from the above list) would you like to go to?
- Are the cats friendly or unsocialised?
This program exists because of the generosity of our vets. In order to reduce their administration work as a result of our vouchers, we will handle payment to them on your behalf. After we receive your request for a voucher, we will calculate the total cost of the procedure and ask you to send us payment for the balance remaining after the voucher has been applied (we will supply a payment link at that time). Once we receive your payment a voucher for the full cost will be prepared and emailed to you. You will not be required to make a payment to the vet. Please allow up to week for this to take place (our volunteer works full time) and you can contact us if it takes longer.

How will I receive my voucher?
We will send it to you as a pdf by reply email. We will include instructions on what you do next in this email.
How long do I have to use my voucher?
All vouchers strict one month expiry date from the date of issue
Can I nominate a different vet?
No. We have negotiated rescue rates with our participating vets, as well as trading terms meaning money doesn’t have to be paid up front, which would not be possible for a program like this. Also, we are only using vets for this program who we use ourselves and trust. If none of our participating vets are in your area, we recommend going to the National Desexing Network’s website (who run a similar program) to see if they have a vet near you.
Can I get a discount on other veterinary services through CatRescue 901?
Unfortunately no. We are not in a position to fund additional veterinary services. Any additional veterinary services, including things like consultations, vaccinations, microchipping, boarding, medications, etc, are not included in this program, and are a private matter between you and the vet.
Do I have to make an appointment with the vet? Or can I just turn up when I’m ready?
Appointments for desexing must be made in advance directly with the vet. Please ensure to follow any instructions given by the vet at the time you make this appointment. This will include the time you need to drop the cat off by, and they will also instruct you that you must withhold food the night before desexing.
Why can’t I feed my cat the night before desexing?
Cats are placed under sedation, and have a breathing tube inserted throughout the operation. It’s imperative the cat has an empty stomach, otherwise they may vomit (as a reaction to the anaesthetic) into the breathing tube which can then cause it to become blocked and stop the cat receiving any oxygen, which could be fatal.
The vet refused to honour my voucher, and threw me out saying I was being rude to the staff
It is part of the Terms & Conditions that all voucher holders are polite to all vet staff. It is up to the discretion of the veterinary staff &/or management to refuse service. So please make sure to be polite at all times when dealing with the vet staff. As we will not be issuing additional vouchers for a different vet if this occurs.

Please note however that we are all volunteers do so our very best to respond to as many enquiries as we can, and help as many cats as we can. But sadly there is not enough of us, and far too many cats in need of our help.
It is our goal to eventually be able to run our Subsidised Desexing program all year round. We would also love to be able to offer free desexing to those caring individuals who utilise our program to desex stray or colony cats. However, it costs money to make these dreams a reality.
